Adaptavist: Building Success on Top of the Atlassian Platform

Simon Haighton-Williams, CEO, AdaptavistSimon Haighton-Williams, CEO
The COVID-19 pandemic is bringing forth a significant number of challenges for many businesses, making digital transformation a mission-critical priority. Today, the agility that digital-first companies embrace is the defining difference between thriving and surviving. Now is the time to become a truly agile enterprise.

Many agile enterprises are relying on the Atlassian ecosystem to imbibe an agile approach across their teams. In particular, Atlassian tools such as Jira are being used to streamline and accelerate software development, project management, DevOps infrastructure, and collaboration. And as the world has been shifting to more integrated digital work over the past few months, the use of Atlassian’s tools is evolving and expanding.

Interestingly, Adaptavist—a London-based global IT company—has a unique role to play in this digital revolution. Enterprise agility has been a core tenet for Adaptavist long before the crisis struck. For years, the company has helped its clients address their digital transformation needs in a more agile way with ancillary solutions and services from Atlassian and complementary ecosystems. And the successful implementation and integration of Atlassian tools and processes across global enterprises have led Adaptavist to become one of the largest and most preferred Atlassian partners in the world, with over 13,000 customers, including over half of the Fortune 100. “At Adaptavist, we consider ourselves problem solvers, first and foremost. We help our clients unlock the real value of their software-driven investments, starting with Atlassian and including complementary technologies like Slack, AWS and GitLab. This full ecosystem approach ensures we can deliver the best solutions to meet a customer’s business objectives,” underscores Simon Haighton-Williams, the CEO of Adaptavist.

Explaining further, Haighton-Williams notes that this year’s current abrupt push to digitalization is forcing many organizations to work with multiple systems to connect their teams and drive day-to-day work activities in a way they’d simply not planned for. This dramatic shift to an online-only workplace can reduce efficiency across the workforce. Moreover, performing certain repetitive and mundane tasks on these disparate systems is taking employees away from more enjoyable work, and it’s also stifling innovation. Adaptavist is thus helping businesses stitch their patchwork systems together around Atlassian tools, thereby helping them instil a robust, agile culture throughout the organization. “Tying together the business goals of our clients with the technology piece in a way that’s practical and makes sense for their organization is the key -- and that is something we do better than anyone,” says Haighton-Williams.
To this end, along with managing the Atlassian platform for large organizations, Adaptavist has developed multiple Atlassian Marketplace Apps and extensions for Atlassian products such as Jira, Confluence, Trello, and others.

At Adaptavist, we consider ourselves problem solvers, first and foremost. We help our clients unlock the real value of their software-driven investments, starting with Atlassian and including complementary technologies like Slack, AWS and GitLab

One of these product families—ScriptRunner—requires a special mention. ScriptRunner is an automation and integration tool that clients can download from the Atlassian Marketplace and use as a plug-in for Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket to automate, customize, and extend functionality with third-party integrations. Using the well-known Groovy language, they can build multi-step automation flows with bespoke logic, loops and variables, archive issues, update and validate custom fields across projects, and save hundreds of hours on repetitive tasks. Additionally, users can control many aspects of their Jira UI and UX, making it their own with direct access to the Jira Java API (for server and data center) and REST API (for cloud).

According to Haighton-Williams, customers are using ScripRunner for Jira in many different ways such as allowing clients to generate Jira project templates—saving time and money, automating testing on systems at the optimal downtime and creating custom workflows so business and tech teams alike can track work using the same tool. ScriptRunner allows clients to configure, automate and extend their Atlassian tools in any way they can imagine, allowing whatever business logic and integration is needed. Clients use Scriptrunner in conjunction with Atlassian tools to deliver real business change by implementing transformational methodologies such as SAFe.

However, technology alone does not transform businesses. To that end, Adaptavist also offers consulting services ranging from the traditional, such as implementing and configuring Atlassian tools, to the more transformative, including organizational psychology and executive coaching. “The goal is to uncover the changes our clients want to drive throughout their businesses and then show them how their people and processes can affect those goals—for better or worse,” explains Haighton-Williams. “The way our clients think about change actually shapes their organizations and dictates the tools they need to succeed.”

Adaptavist has teams including organizational psychologists, business analysts, coaches and program managers working side-by-side with deeply technical experts to help clients develop strategies for long-term growth.

As the aforementioned innovative solutions and services continue to enable Adaptavist’s clients to build success atop the Atlassian platform, the company itself is poised to grow and enhance its offerings further in the coming months. On that front, Adaptavist has a long list of new products and solutions in the pipeline. One such solution is a cloud middleware version product that can deliver similar capabilities to ScriptRunner and more to the cloud. Already a Scaled Agile Gold Partner, and Jira Align specialist, the company will also continue to invest in the Agile at scale space. In a recent study by Adaptavist, over 77 percent of enterprises said they already use Agile principles in their organizations, creating a great foundation with plenty of room for growth. In addition, the company is also planning to further sharpen its focus on DevOps and ITSM in the coming year, with the goal of helping clients better shape their organizations for delivering technology by aligning internal cultures and removing silos.

“It’s one thing to be expert at providing tools, it’s another thing to help businesses understand how and why to use those tools, in conjunction with their people, processes and culture, to make their organization better. That’s what we’re interested in at Adaptavist—we want to change the way our clients think about technology by moving beyond just point solutions to smart, truly transformative strategies that help our customers embrace change, drive innovation and above all, generate growth,” concludes Haighton-Williams.
